Oar Box
While working as a shop intern, my boss and I completed one commission project of fabricating an oar box for a local rowing club.
We fabricated the oar box out of rough-sawn 1" boards, which we had to plane and join to achieve the size of board we desired. We used dovetail joints on the corners, and added mesh-covered holes on the bottom of the box, allowing for ventilation while still providing bug protection. The oar box was finished with multiple layers of oil to maintain the nice wooden look while still protecting the wood.
